Government Announces Review of ILFOn Wednesday 3 May 2006 Anne McGuire, Minister for Disabled People, announced that the ILF will be reviewed. An independent consultant and steering group will undertake the Review and it is likely that the findings will be reported to Ministers by December 2006. ILF users, Stakeholders and other interested parties will be invited to contribute to the Review.
The last review of the ILF (the Quinquennial Review) took place in 2001 and as a result a number of changes and improvements were made to ILF operations. The Review process will have no impact on the payments ILF users receive or the service given. The government is fully committed to supporting independent living for disabled people and this Review presents an opportunity to ensure that this support is being given by the most appropriate means and in the most effective manner to those who need it. The Social Care field is an area of rapid development and the ILF strives to be at the forefront of this arena. This Review offers an opportunity for the ILF to further strengthen its commitment to supporting the independence and enhancing the lives of people with disabilities.
