About the ILF
What is the Independent Living Funds? How does it work? Why are there two different Funds? What are the maximum awards that can be paid?

Making an Application
Do I have to get Income Support to get help from the ILF? What sort of things can I get help with? Can I apply if I get Constant Attendance Allowance (CAA)? Does the capital limit apply to just me, or my partner as well? Can I apply on someone else's behalf? Can I apply during college holidays when I need help, even if my needs are met during term time?

Amount of Awards
How do you work out how much you can award? How do you calculate the amount I have to pay towards my care? How do you pay me if the amount of care I need varies? What is the maximum amount the Extension Fund can pay?

How can the award be used?
Can I use the money to buy items of equipment or make adaptations to my accommodation? Who can I pay? Can I pay a relative to care for me? Can my personal assistant take me out? Can my personal assistant do my shopping? Can I use the money when I go on holiday? Can I use the money to pay for transport to a day centre?

Paying for Care
Can my personal assistants receive redundancy payments or payments in lieu of notice? Can the ILF meet Statutory Sick Pay costs that cannot be recovered from the Inland Revenue? How much should I pay my personal assistant? What happens if my personal assistant is ill or on holiday? Do I have to pay tax or National Insurance? What if I have to pay my personal assistant more? What if I have to pay more on bank holidays or weekends?

Managing the Award
Can someone else deal with the money for me? Do I need to keep records? Do I need to send bills or receipts to you? Can I pay someone to do the paperwork for me? Will you pay the money to my personal assistant? Do I have to account for Direct Payments separately from my ILF payments?

Change in Circumstances
What happens if I go into hospital or residential care? What if I need more help or the cost of my care increases?
